This process encompasses creating and editing Budget Data via the Edit Budget Data modal accessed from the Budget Item list page and the Budget Item detail page.
1. Accessing the Edit Budget Data Modal
- To access the Edit Budget Data directly from the Budget Item list page, select the drop-down in the Actions column for the desired Budget Item to be updated.
- To access the Edit Budget Data modal from the Budget Item detail page, select the Title link of the desired Budget Item for which to add/edit Budget information.
- Select the 'Budgets' tab.
- Select the 'Add Budget' or 'Edit Budget' button option from the top of the screen.
2. Navigating the Edit Budget Modal
- When the Edit Budget Item modal opens, enter desired Contract, FTE, Cost Pools, and IT Towers information.
- Indicate if the associated Contract is Firm Fixed Price (Fixed) or Time and Materials (Variable).
- Select NRC Strategic Goal then select the NRC Strategic Objective (value for this field will populate based on selected Goal).
(The FTE Amount value drives the Internal Labor Cost Pool Amount.)

- Any amount in the Contract Amount field will need to be distributed to one or more Cost Pools/IT Towers.
- Total Cost Pool Amount must equal the Total IT Tower Amount. If the amounts are not equal, use the Up or Down Arrows provided in the Cost Pools/IT Towers boxes to adjust the amounts for a given Cost Pool or Tower.
- Sub-Cost Pool and Sub-IT Tower fields
- Sub-Cost Pool and Sub-IT Tower fields have been added to the System. If possible, select the appropriate value for each row of data. Definitions for each have been added on hover.
- If Contract Amount has increased or decreased from the previous FY, fill out the 'Justification of Funding Change from Previous FY' and 'Impact of Funding Increase/Decrease' fields.
*Note: these fields will only be enabled if the system detects a change in Contract Amount from previous FY. If enabled, they are required.
- Add Fee Information
- To add Fee Class information to the Budget Item, select the 'Add Fee Information' button in the Fee Information table at the bottom of the modal
- Select desired Fee Class, Excluded Activity, Part Type, and Fund Source
*Note the following: Excluded Activity and Part Type values may be defaulted based on the Fee Class selected, Fee Class values are defaulted for BL-51, and the Total Fee Information Amount must equal the Total Budget Amount.
- When all edits have been made, select the 'Save' button at the bottom of the modal.
3. Updating the 'Major Unfunded' and 'Low Priority List' fields
- If any value is entered into the Major Unfunded and/or Lower Priority List Contract Amount or FTE fields on the Budget Item, the Justification for Change table will open and associated Impact Statement, Priority, and Ranking fields will be required (ie, if amounts are entered in to Major Unfunded fields, the associated Major Unfunded fields in the Justification for Change table will need to be filled out).
- Note that these fields do not display in Edit modal accessed from Formulation Input.
- Only Users with Admin permissions can update these fields.
4. Updating the Formulated Budget/Making Budget Corrections
- When updating the Contract or FTE Amount for a Budget Item for a select Budget Status as it progresses through the budget lifecycle, the Justification for Change table will open and user will be required fill out fields in the Budget Correction column.
- Select the appropriate Change Type (note that all change types except for the Internal Update will be sent to BFS), then fill out the Reasoning/Approval field.
